There is no "I" in team...

How does your team stack up?
A key lesson I learned in Improv was “make your scene partner look good.“

Sometimes that’s a hard lesson to learn, or to understand fully. Many organizations I have worked for had a Superman philosophy: "Without me, this whole place would collapse!" That idea doesn't allow space to make the rest of your team shine - instead it charges ahead with a 'take no prisoners' attitude.

Understanding that it is generally not about you is an opportunity for growth. In a sustainable team culture, everyone focuses on:
  • the mission (why we are here, and what we are working on),
  • the organization (what do we believe in, and how does that manifest in our work),
  • the task at hand (what am I doing today to work towards these goals).

These items are bigger than the individual. As a team member, you are a part of the larger machine. You have a role to play. You need to bring everything you can to the table, and accept and build on the things that other people bring to the table. Together you can build something bigger than any one individual can create on their own. You can build brilliance.

Isn’t that the lesson you want your entire company to embrace?

I will miss the avengers. I really love their movies. Honestly, it was just a while when I finished all of their movies. I was not a fan before because for me it was really a movie for “men”. I have never though that I will be addicted to their movies. Teamwork is really an important matter in every organization. Without it, we cannot work and we cannot have the goal we desire. If one department does not function carefully and orderly, the whole production might fail.

So very true. And too often - we see ourselves as a ‘department of one’ without realizing our interconnectedness.

I am not that fan of avengers, but I have watched all of their movies because of my boyfriend. I really love the story of Tony Stark. Maybe I was just over reacting, but for me, I can see the sadness in his eyes during first part of iron man. He is really smart with something different in his vibe. I really love his role because of his smartness and he is really cool for me. I really love how avengers incorporate “teamwork” in their movies. They really did a great job.
